We hope to earn your business by giving you what you need, when you need it.
Let’s look at the basic components that make up a Compellent solution and then we’ll tie it all together with 4 turnkey configurations.
Controller (Single or Dual)
Dell Compellent users can now select single- or dual-controller configurations with 4 or 8 Gb Fibre Channel, 1 or 10 Gb iSCSI, or 10 Gb Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) frontend interconnects to meet cost, performance and availability requirements. The Series 30 and Series 40 controllers connect to any open-system servers without server-side agents and automatically fail over to another controller when clustered. The new Series 40 features more memory, six PCI-e slots and a battery-less cache, and provides 25% higher I/O performance than the Series 30. Redundant, hot-swappable power supplies and cooling fans help ensure non-stop operation and high availability.
Dell Compellent enterprise-class enclosures feature the latest industry-standard technology, including 6 Gb SAS interconnects, so organizations can scale up and out with ease. Administrators can mix SSD, Fibre Channel and SAS drives in the same system, as well as SAS drives with the same form factor (but different speeds and capacities) in the same enclosure. Using identical rackspace, 24-bay 2.5″ SAS enclosures accommodate more than twice as many drives as 16-bay 3.5″ Fibre Channel enclosures. Any combination of Fibre Channel and/or SAS enclosures can be housed in an array to balance cost and performance.
Now available with a 6 Gb transfer rate, Dell Compellent SAS drives with the same 2.5″ or 3.5″ form factor (but different speeds and capacities) can even share the same storage enclosure. SAS 2.0 technology delivers twice the performance yet uses nearly half the power of SAS 1.0. Plus, 2.5″ SAS drives are two-thirds smaller than conventional 3.5″ drives, resulting in a significant performance boost with a smaller footprint.
Network Storage Software
Dell Compellent enables enterprises of all sizes to move beyond simply storing data to actively, intelligently managing data. Or course there are dozens of other “pieces and parts” that make up a complete system, so we’ve created 4 turnkey configurations to make it easy to get started.
